Mode of Action
Dienogest is a nortestosterone derivative with antiandrogenic activity. It binds to the progesterone receptor of the human uterus with minimal androgenic, mineralocorticoid and glucocorticoid activity. It acts on endometriosis
by reducing the endogenous production of oestradiol and thereby suppressing the trophic effects of
oestradiol on both the eutopic and ectopic endometrium.
Repeat the daily tablet administration in case of vomiting or diarrhea.
Do not apply in prostate
cancer, severe diabetes [with vascular changes],
sickle-cell anaemia, liver-disease including
Dubin-Johnson and Rotor syndromes, previous or
existing liver tumours, malignant or wasting
diseases, meningioma or history of meningioma,
severe depression, history of thromboembolic
disorders; youths under 18 years [may arrest bone
maturation and testicular development].
Fatigue; thrombosis [coronary and
venous] hypertension; depression; change in
libido and fertility; diarrhea; allergic reactions;
altered cognitive functions; reduced adrenal functions; oedema; altered carbohydrate metabolism.
