Tocolytic therapy in the treatment of preterm labour. It may be marginally less effective in the management of preterm labour than the Beta 2-agonists but it is significantly better tolerated than the Beta 2-agonists, particularly with regard to the cardiovascular side effects.
Initial dose: 6.75mg IV over 1 minute, followed by a continuous IV 300 mcg per minute for 3 hours. This is followed by an intravenous infusion of 100mcg per minute for up to a maxi-mum 45 hours. The maximum duration of treatment is 48 hours and the maximum dose is 330mg
