Cefazolin
Indications
Susceptible RTI, UTI, skin and soft tissue, post-operative infections.
Dose/Application
Usual dose is the equivalent of 0.25 to 1g of cefazolin every 6, 8, or 12 hours. In severe, life-threatening infections 1 to 1.5g every 6 hours may be given; up to 12g daily has been used. For the prophylaxis of infection during surgery, a 1g dose is given half to one hour before the operation, followed by 0.5 to 1g during surgery for lengthy procedures. A dose of 0.5 to 1g is given every 6 to 8 hours postoperatively for 24 hours or up to 5 days in certain cases.
