Induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia
Induction: 2-4% v/v [1.5-2% in children] of halothane in oxygen or mixtures of oxygen and nitrous oxide. Alternatively, induction can be induced by 0.5% v/v increased stepwise to appropriate levels.

Mode of Action
It may act by enhancing inhibitory ion channels hence inhibiting excitatory activity in CNS.
Repeat use should not be carried before 3 months are over.
Susceptibility to malignant hyperthermia; pyrexia and jaundice of unknown cause; use in obstetrics as it increases the risk of postpartum hemorrhage.
Hepatotoxicity; hypotension; bradycardia; cardiac arrhythmias; cardiac arrest; nausea and vomiting; shivering; malignant hyperthermia
Drug interactions: Use with sympathomimetics, dopaminergics, and theophylline due to increased risk of cardiac arrhythmias.
