Mode of Action
It inhibits topoisomerase I, which is an enzyme in the cell nuclei that regulates DNA topology and assists nuclear processes such as DNA replication, recombination, and repair.
Only physicians experienced in cancer chemotherapy should use it; monitor complete blood counts, [including differential and platelet counts] before each dose; monitor renal and hepatic function.
Concurrent chickenpox or herpes zoster infection; hypersensitivity to the drug
Anaemia; diarrhoea; abdominal cramping; sweating; fever; leukopenia; neutropenia; thrombocytopenia; dyspnea; abdominal enlargement; dehydration; asthenia; constipation; loss of appetite; nausea and vomiting; weight loss.
It is semisynthetic derivative of camptothecin, which is an alkaloid extracted from plants such as Camptotheca acuminata.
