Mode of Action
It is thought to be related to its irreversible inhibition of monoamine oxidase type B [MAO B], which is involved in the oxidative deamination of dopamine in the brain. It is also thought to interfere with dopamine re-uptake at the synapse.
Elderly, angina, arrhythmias, psychosis, pregnancy, breast-feeding, impairment, poorly controlled hypertension, avoid in active ulceration, need to reduce the dose of L-dopa by 10-50% when concurrently administered.
GI disturbances, psychosis, sore throat, hypotension, skin reactions, vertigo, tremor, agitation, back pain, depression, sleep disturbance, muscle cramps, difficulty in passing urine.
