A specific serotonin [5HT3] antagonist. [Emetogenics like cytotoxic drugs and radiation damage gastrointestinal mucosa. This leads to the release of serotonin from the entero- chromaffin cells of the gastrointestinal tract. 5- HT3 receptors are stimulated causing transmission of sensory signals to the vomiting center via vagal afferent fibers to induce vomiting.
